Enter a starting value and an ending value to measure the percent increase or decrease between them, along with the absolute difference.
Results update as you type. Handles decimals and negative numbers.
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, then multiply by 100: percent change = (new − old) ÷ old × 100. For example, going from 120 to 150 is (150 − 120) ÷ 120 × 100 = 25% increase.
If the new value is larger than the old value the result is positive and called a percent increase. If the new value is smaller the result is negative and called a percent decrease. The formula is the same either way.
Percentage change divides by the old value, and dividing by zero is undefined. If the starting value is zero, a percentage change cannot be calculated, though you can still report the absolute difference.
